ABOUT SAPPHIC

Founded in April 2022, Sapphic Ja is a grassroots organization dedicated to creating safe, affirming spaces and expanding opportunities for women, non-binary, and trans Jamaicans both locally and across the diaspora.
In Jamaica, these communities face significant challenges, including violence and systemic barriers that make it difficult to live authentically. Sapphic exists to counter these struggles by fostering support, visibility, and economic empowerment.
At the core of Sapphic’s mission is its commitment to community-driven economic empowerment.
Everyone employed by Sapphic is a woman, non-binary, or trans person, ensuring that funds and opportunities directly benefit the community. The organization actively promotes businesses owned by women, non-binary, and trans individuals through its platform, offering visibility and exposure. Additionally, Sapphic integrates economic support into its events by providing vendors from these communities with the opportunity to sell their goods and services, fostering financial independence and sustainability.
Looking ahead to 2027, Sapphic has expaned its initiatives to include mutual aid and housing support for the local community. Recognizing the urgent need for safe and stable living conditions, these efforts will further Sapphic’s mission to provide tangible, life-changing resources for marginalized individuals in Jamaica.Through advocacy, economic support, and the creation of affirming spaces, Sapphic continues to uplift and empower women, non-binary, and trans Jamaicans, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to thrive.
Built
By Us
Every Sapphic event is created by us, for us. From production and staffing to vendors and entertainment, our events are powered by our community, for our community, creating safe, affirming spaces where we can connect, celebrate, and thrive together.
Community Powered
Our community is at the heart of everything we do. We intentionally hire and collaborate with queer creatives, DJs, photographers, bartenders, vendors, and event professionals, ensuring every event creates meaningful opportunities while strengthening our community.
Purpose-Driven Events
Every ticket purchased does more than grant access to an unforgettable experience it helps us invest in our people. Through our events, we create jobs, develop skills, support LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, and build a stronger, more connected community.
Our Activism
Our community has always taken care of one another. Following Hurricane Melissa, we're mobilizing emergency aid, mutual support, and direct cash assistance for trans and queer Jamaicans affected by the storm.
Together, we rebuild.
